73th EAGE Conference & Exhibition

(by Aurelian)

From May 21 to 27, 2011, nine SGS members went on a student trip to Vienna, Austria, for the 73rd EAGE Conference & Exhibition.

In addition to the actual conference and exhibition, EAGE organized a special student program for the 420 students who had registered for the conference. Out of many program options to chose from, our members decided to attend two Total student workshops on Discovering the Balance between Technical and Soft Skill Development as well as 4D Interpretation and Use for Field Development and Reservoir Model Update. Moreover, three of our members formed a team and participated in the Geo-Quiz to compete for honor, glory and prices against 27 other teams from all over the world. In the end, they finished on ninth place.

EAGE offers the opportunity to apply for student travel grants. Even though EAGE prefers to give their travel grants to students who are EAGE student members and either give a talk or present a poster at the EAGE Conference & Exhibition, everyone can apply. In 2011, EAGE awarded 109 students with travel grants for their trips to Vienna.

The 73rd EAGE Conference & Exhibition was the first big international conference for most of our students and therefore will always have a special place in their memories. The 74th EAGE Conference & Exhibition will take place from June 4 to 7, 2012, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and SGS will definitely be there as well.
